Can you install solar on a terraced house?
Usually, yes. Many terraced roofs have good orientation. Our drone survey checks the roof, shading and space, and we'll explain what size of system makes sense.
Do I need planning permission for solar panels?
Most solar panels on house roofs are permitted development, so they don't need planning permission. Listed buildings, flats and some conservation areas have extra rules. We'll check before we quote.
Do solar panels work in the West Midlands?
Yes. Panels generate from daylight, not just direct sunshine, so they still produce on cloudy days, just less. The best results are on south, east or west-facing roofs with little shading, which our drone survey checks.
Can I add a battery to my existing solar panels?
In most cases, yes. We can add a battery to an existing system, either alongside your current inverter or with a hybrid inverter, and set it up to store surplus solar and charge on a cheap overnight tariff.
Can my solar panels charge my electric car?
Yes. Several smart chargers can use surplus solar first and top up from the grid when needed. We're OZEV approved for EV chargers and MCS certified for solar, so one team designs both.
What is the Smart Export Guarantee?
The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) requires larger energy suppliers to pay you for electricity you export to the grid. Rates vary by supplier. You'll need an MCS certificate, which we provide with every installation.
Is VAT charged on solar panels and batteries?
For homes, solar panels and battery storage are currently zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027. Standard VAT rules apply to commercial installations.
Is solar worth it for a business?
Often, yes, because most businesses use the electricity during the day while the panels are generating. We'll look at your bills and usage pattern and give you a realistic estimate of savings and payback.
