No long waiting lists

Why wait months for your installation?

Some installers have waiting lists that run for months, so a new EV sits on the drive charging from a 3-pin plug, or you pay public charging prices in the meantime. We fit your charger within days or a couple of weeks of booking, so you're on cheap overnight rates almost straight away.

How we keep it quick

  • VCHRGD pass your booking straight to our local team
  • Our own electricians, based nearby, not a national queue
  • We don't overbook, so your date is kept
  • Most homes are fitted in around half a day

How it works

From booking to first charge in days, not months

  1. Book with VCHRGDBook online or call VCHRGD. They'll ask a few questions about your home, your car and where you park.
  2. Your installation is plannedVCHRGD pass the job to Able Electrician. We check your fuse board, supply and cable route, and agree a date that suits you.
  3. Our electrician fits itOne of our own NICEIC electricians fits, tests and certifies the charger, usually in around half a day, and leaves everything tidy.
  4. Ready to chargeWe set up the app with you, show you how scheduling works and notify your network operator. Then you just plug in.

Charging speeds

How much faster is a home charger than a 3-pin plug?

A plug-in "granny" cable is fine in an emergency, but it's slow, and a normal socket isn't designed to run at full load for 10 hours or more. A dedicated charger on its own circuit is quicker and much safer.

How you chargePowerRange added per hourGood to know
3-pin plugAbout 2.3kW6 to 8 milesA full charge can take more than a day. Never use an extension lead.
Seven Pro (single-phase)Up to 7.4kW25 to 30 milesFills most cars overnight. Works on almost every UK home supply.
TwentyTwo Pro (three-phase)11 or 22kWUp to about 90 milesNeeds a three-phase supply and a car that accepts 11 or 22kW.

Range figures are typical and depend on your car, the weather and how you drive. Upgrading a home to three-phase can cost thousands of pounds and is rarely worth it for one car, so we'll tell you honestly if a Seven Pro will do the job.

Tethered or untethered

Cable attached, or bring your own?

Tethered

The cable stays fixed to the charger and wraps neatly around it. Pull up, unhook and plug in.

Best for: one regular car, and drivers who want the quickest plug-in every day.

Untethered

A clean socket on the wall and you use your own Type 2 cable, so you can choose the length and swap cars easily.

Best for: homes with two EVs, visitors who charge, or a minimal look on the front of the house.

Save on every charge

Built for Intelligent Octopus Go, and every other EV tariff

VCHRGD chargers are directly integrated with Octopus Energy's Intelligent Octopus Go tariff. Octopus talks to the charger itself and schedules your charging for the cheapest, greenest hours, so it doesn't depend on your car having a supported app.

Charging at home on a standard rate already costs less than public rapid chargers. On an EV tariff overnight, the cost per mile falls again, often to a fraction of public charging. If you're with another supplier, the charger works with their tariffs too.

There are two kinds:

  • Smart, supplier-controlled tariffs such as Intelligent Octopus Go and OVO Charge Anytime. Your supplier schedules charging for the cheapest times and you just set a ready-by time.
  • Time-of-use tariffs such as E.ON Next Drive and British Gas Electric Driver. You get a cheap overnight window and set the charger's schedule in the app.

Tariffs change often, so check current prices and car compatibility with each supplier. Neither VCHRGD nor Able Electrician is paid by any energy supplier.

Got solar panels?

VCHRGD chargers can charge your car from the solar power you'd otherwise send back to the grid.

  • Solar top-up: starts charging when your panels are exporting more than about 1.2kW.
  • Solar only: charges purely from surplus solar, for free miles in the sunny months.

We fit the clamp and set the mode during installation.

VCHRGD home charger questions

How do I book a VCHRGD charger installation?

Book online through VCHRGD, or call them on 01494 370523 or email info@vchrgd.com. VCHRGD confirm the details with you and pass the job to Able Electrician, whose NICEIC electricians carry out the installation in your area.

Who actually fits my charger?

Able Electrician. We are VCHRGD's installation partner, an NICEIC Approved Contractor and an OZEV-approved installer, and our own qualified electricians fit every VCHRGD charger in our area.

Should I choose the Seven Pro or the TwentyTwo Pro?

Almost every UK home has a single-phase supply, which limits home charging to about 7.4kW, so the Seven Pro is the right choice for most drivers. The TwentyTwo Pro suits properties with a three-phase supply, such as some larger homes, farms and business premises.

Tethered or untethered: which is better?

A tethered charger has its cable fixed on, so you just unhook it and plug in. An untethered charger has a socket and you use your own Type 2 cable, which looks tidier and suits households with more than one EV. The charging technology inside is the same.

Will a VCHRGD charger work with my car?

Yes. VCHRGD chargers use the Type 2 connector fitted to every electric and plug-in hybrid car sold new in the UK.

Can I charge from my solar panels?

Yes. VCHRGD chargers have solar modes that can top up your car with surplus solar power you would otherwise export, or charge only from solar. We can set this up during the installation.

Do VCHRGD chargers work with Octopus Energy?

Yes. VCHRGD chargers are directly integrated with Intelligent Octopus Go, so Octopus can schedule your charging through the charger itself. They also work with time-of-use EV tariffs from other suppliers, where you set the cheap hours in the VCHRGD app. Octopus keeps an up-to-date compatibility checker on its website.

How soon can you fit my charger?

Usually within days or a couple of weeks of booking, not months. VCHRGD pass your booking straight to our local team, and because we don't overbook, the date we agree is the date we come.

How long does installation take?

Most home installations take around half a day. If your fuse board needs upgrading or the cable run is long, VCHRGD will explain this before the work is booked.

Do you notify the electricity network operator?

Yes. Every home charger has to be notified to your local network operator, and we take care of this as part of the installation along with testing and your electrical certificate.

Who do I contact if I have a problem with my charger?

Contact VCHRGD first on 01494 370523 or info@vchrgd.com. They look after the charger, app and warranty, and if a visit is needed they arrange it with us.
