EV charger grants explained

Which grant can you get?

The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) runs several chargepoint grants. Each one is aimed at a different type of applicant, and they're only paid through an OZEV-approved installer, which is why the installer you choose matters.

The schemes are due to close on 31 March 2027. Grants are usually claimed after installation, so there's a real advantage to getting your survey and quote done early, especially for larger commercial projects.

When do the OZEV grants end?

The current chargepoint grants are scheduled to run until 31 March 2027. Funding can change, so it's worth getting a survey and quote done early.

Can I get a grant if I own my house?

Not at the moment. The home grant is for people who rent their home, or own and live in a flat, with private off-street parking. A smart charger on an EV tariff still keeps running costs low.

How many sockets can a business claim for?

Up to 40 sockets across all your sites under the Workplace Charging Scheme. A twin charger with two sockets counts as two.

Can schools get more?

Yes. State-funded schools, academies and colleges can claim up to £2,000 per socket, up to 40 sockets, which can cover most or all of a typical installation.

Do I have to use an OZEV-approved installer?

Yes. Grants are only paid for installations carried out by an OZEV-authorised installer. We're approved, and we handle the installer side of the claim.

Can I combine a grant with capital allowances?

Businesses may be able to claim capital allowances on the part of the cost they pay themselves. Tax treatment depends on your circumstances, so check with your accountant.
